The
Honourable Michael Harcourt
Michael
Harcourt served as British Columbia's Premier from 1991
- 1996, and as Mayor of Vancouver, 3 terms from 1980 - 1986,
and elected 4 terms as Vancouver Alderman, 1972 - 1980.
Mr.
Harcourt is a Senior Associate of the Liu Centre for the
Studies of Global Issues at the University of British Columbia
and also is a Senior Associate with the Sustainable Development
Research Institute at U.B.C. He is involved in a number
of private business activities, as well as speaking and
advising internationally on sustainability solutions.
In November
1996, he was appointed by the Prime Minister to the National
Round Table on the Environment and the Economy where he
serves on the Executive Committee and Chairs the Urban Sustainability
Program. He is Director of the Asia Pacific Foundation,
Vice-Chair of the International Centre for Sustainable Cities,
and the Honorary Chair at the Pacific Rim Council on Urban
Development. He serves as Director at the Vancouver International
Airport and the Vancouver Port Authority.
Mr.
Harcourt has a B.A. and L.L.B. from the University of British
Columbia.
He has
an Honourary Doctor of Laws from Royal Roads University.
The
Hon. Mike Harcourt is the Vice-Chair for the citiesPLUS
project and will be representing the Canadian team at key
events in the International Sustainable Urban Systems Design
Competition in 2002 and 2003. He will also be serving as
the Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board for the citiesPLUS
project.
